The seven members of the Glen Cove school board are community leaders who are elected by the voters and serve without pay. Richard Tortorici is a retired assistant principal in the Scarsdale school district and previously served as president of the Glen Cove school board about ten years ago. Kurt Schmeller is the former president of Queensborough Community College. Two of his children graduated from the Glen Cove schools. Doug Brown is a captain in the United States Coast Guard and a professor of engineering and director of the environmental engineering program at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Two of his sons graduated from the Glen Cove schools. Frank Bouza recently retired as director of facilities of the Glen Cove School System.
