One of the experiments by a classmate demonstrated the difference between a mixture and a solution. We studied these science terms earlier in the year. We understand that a mixture is "a combination of two or more substances that do not mix together." A solution is "a mixture of two or more substances that mix evenly throughout each other." Solutions do not separate and mixtures do. In an item in the Pulse column, "A New Layered Look" (April 14), it was stated that the new layered beauty products were "solutions." The correct term, as we understand it, would be "mixtures." Mrs. Clark's Fourth-Grade Science Class, Landing Elementary School, Glen Cove, N.Y.
