Coalition for Glen Cove

Purpose and Goals

The Coalition for Glen Cove is an association of residents of Glen Cove, NY,  who are advocates for education. We believe that the Glen Cove schools benefit everyone in the community: students, parents, homeowners, renters, business owners, employees, professionals, and retirees, and that the schools deserve our attention and support.

The purpose of the Coalition is

• To bring accurate information about the schools to the community

• To encourage the community to provide the schools with the resources they need

•  To help elect effective people to the school board.

Membership is free. Contributions from members are used to support the work of the Coalition, including gathering information, meeting with community groups, printing fliers, sponsoring newspaper advertisements, and mailing information to Glen Cove residents.

The direct benefit that the schools bring to students is to teach them to read and write, to calculate and think analytically, to know and understand science, history and the organization of society, and to know the best that has been written and created. Along with these direct benefits, the schools provide students with organized athletics, dramatic and musical productions, publications, service to the community, role models, and the opportunity to learn to work together with other students with different backgrounds and interests.

Good schools provide long term benefits to the entire community by educating every young person to the limits of his or her ability. Democracy can prosper only when every voter can make wise decisions based on accurate information and education. Our social, economic, civic, and cultural life depends on educated elected leaders, entrepreneurs, employees, and professionals.

Good schools provide immediate tangible benefits to the community. People decide where to purchase a home according to the quality of the local schools. Property values rise and fall with the excellence of the school system.

Our school tax dollars provide the foundation for the present and future of our community. Let's make that foundation strong, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
