Representatives from the Obama and McCain campaigns were invited to speak about the education platforms of the presidential candidates at the meeting of the Coalition for Glen Cove on October 27th. Coalition President Helen Kotzky introduced Valdar Coryat, Obama campaign coordinator for Nassau County. Ms. Coryat is a member of National Women for Obama Initiative, 2008, a Democratic National Convention Delegate, and the mother of three school age children.
Ms. Coryat provided knowledgeable, articulate, and detailed information about Barak Obama's education platform. The audience of adults and high school government students engaged in discussions with Ms. Coryat regarding issues and questions they had about education reform, funding, and priorities. All participants received handouts highlighting the education plans of both the McCain and Obama campaigns. Helen Kotzky thanked Valdar Coryat for attending, for her excellent presentation, and for her ability to fully engage the audience in discussions. The Coalition would also like to thank Emily Bradford, Glen Cove High School Social Studies teacher, for encouraging her government students to attend the meeting.
Anael Alston, principal of Robert Finley Middle School, will be the guest speaker at the next Coalition meeting on Monday, November 10th at 7:30 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
