DISCUSSIONS
1. It was decided there was not a need to re-define the Coalition's Goals/Mission Statement. The current purpose for the Coalition to be an advocate for education in Glen Cove Schools remains adequate.
2. Our goal is to expand the membership and improve attendance at meetings. We will reach out to the current 230 members asking them to attend meetings and request they solicit others to join the Coalition.
3. A mailing will be sent to all members which restates the Coalitions Goals & Purpose and will list all members names. It will ask members support of the above goal and encourage them to look at the Coalition web site on a regular basis. Don Scarl will send out the e- mails or letters to all Coalition members. Included will be the names and photos of the Coalitions 2008/2009 officers.
4. In the future we will ask our members to attend a meeting regarding people the Coalition wishes to support for election to the next school board. At the meetings members will be asked to secretly vote for the candidates they wish the Coalition to support. Proxies will also be available for those who can not attend the meeting.
5. The Coalition will host additional open meetings requesting Glen Cove community to attend. Guest speakers will be selected who the public would have interest in learning about their views on public education. Ideas are: a) Representatives from Obama/McCain campaign to discuss candidates education policies ( Helen will research) b) Anael Alston & Dr. Camhi Glen Cove School System. Update on 21st Century Grant c) Meet/Greet future candidates for Glen Cove School Board.
6. Draft of Coalition 2008 budget was discussed. Work needs to be done to improve the format of the financial statement to get a clearer understanding of the numbers.
7. John DeMarino will contact the President of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce regarding options for the Coalition to make a presentation of our Purpose/Goals at a future GC Chamber of Commerce meeting.
8. Next Coalition meeting will be scheduled for 10/27/08
