St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 7:30 PM

Dr. Shari Camhi was our guest speaker. Dr. Aronstein’s and Dr. Camhi’s perspectives are:

  • Listening – talking to people within our school district. Dr. Camhi talked to administrators, PTA Council, staff, etc. Also, she will listen to the community since the community can now speak with administrators and board members after School Board meetings.
  • Fiscal responsibility – we have saved $150,000.
  • Management Issues
    • Website – the new website will begin next week.
    • Re-registration – Tracy Worthy was hired as an attendance teacher. The high school in September had about 1000 students registered, but after checking how many were actually there, in October the correct number was 900.
  • Curriculum and Instruction – There will be an online SAT tutorial for free. Parents will be sent a letter with a username and password.
  • High School Seniors do not have a full schedule in their second semester. It would be good to have seniors do a senior project in their last semester, such as one of the programs offered by WISE Services. The president of WISE Services, Vic Leviatin, says “A one-year exploration, planning, and implementation schedule keeps enthusiasm and motivation high…”.
  • Student Committees – What our students need with their school:
    • Middle School – Collegial Network.  Eight students.
    • High School – Breaking Ranks.  Six plus students.
  • Science Research Program
  • Video – using documentaries with students. The videos will be on the PBS website.
  • Superintendent’s Day – Teaching for Understanding
  • Master Teacher Academy – advanced teaching and learning skills
  • Leadership Academy – teachers and administrators
  • New teachers
    • Staff development classes during the summer
    • Fifteen hour staff development during this year
  • Colleges/Universities – Cooperation with Long Island colleges may allow our teachers to have master degree courses in the Glen Cove schools.
