Meeting of October 11, 2004 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church
Minutes
The discussions revolved around running for the school
board and getting voters to accept the budget.
Helen Kotzky and Fred Moore will run for the school
board.
There was a PTA Council Budget Committee last year.
However, the PTA Council has determined that it does not need a Budget
Committee this year. This is probably a mistake.
Because the budget vote failed, what impact does this
have on our students? Parents should write letters to the editor about how
this affected their children. For example, class size, extracurricular
activities, etc.
What can we do to get the community to vote for next
year’s budget:
- Pennysaver: distribute a
flyer for the budget vote.
- PTAs pull parents into the
schools for a bagel breakfast.
- Bring flyers to sports
events, concerts, etc.
- Have an event in the
schools on the day of the vote so that parents will be around to vote.
- Have meetings at churches.
- Go to meetings with Glen
Cove organizations, for example, the Boys and Girls Club, LaFueza,
Interagency Council, etc.
- Have the high school
students over 18 year old register and vote for the budget.
- Educational programs for
parochial and private school parents, such as, special education,
nurses, etc. also could have an influence on the school budget.
- The community needs to
trust the public schools and the administration.
