The Third Annual Coalition Brunch was held at Steamboat Landing Restaurant.  20 people attended and an additional 15 people sent contributions.

Ted Holmes has received many membership contributions totaling $2,395.00.  Thank you letters are being sent out to each contributor.

Open School Day is being organized by Maria Reyes and will take place on April 30th.  Eight community leaders have already signed up for a tour of a school, hosted by each administrator and PTA Officers.

Leslie Whitely is organizing the upcoming annual Glen Cove Real Estate breakfast meeting which will take place at one of the schools this Spring.

Richard Tortorici made a presentation to Coalition Member Beverly Granger at the Scholarship Dinner-Dance on Sunday, March 9th.

The Teacher's Union Contract has been settled.  Teachers will now contribute an additional 5% to their health insurance (a total of 15%).   Two days will be added to the school calendar and the school day will be lengthened at the elementary and middle school levels.

The school budget was passed unanimously by the school board.  The budget increase will be 4.8%.

The Coalition Academic Excellence Committee held their first meeting on March 31st.  Committee members are Helen Kotzky, chairperson, Betty Cammisa, Beverly Granger, Nancy Fender, Karen Ferguson, Bob Pryor and Kathy Weber.  Anyone interested in joining can contact Helen Kotzky  at 674-4130.  A May meeting is being planned as well as a meeting with Dr. Freeley and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Diane Scricca.  This Committee will be focusing on academic excellence within our schools.  The purpose will be 1) to inform the community of the many excellent enrichment programs happening in our schools 2) encourage the community to support a budget which includes programs which enhance the standards-based curriculum, offering students additional academic challenges at all levels and 3) to make progress towards Glen Cove's image as a district of excellence byparticipating and succeeding in county/statewide events and competitions.

Richard Tortorici is running for School Board.  The School Board election and Budget Vote will take place on Tuesday, May 20th.  Meet the Candidates night will take place, Tuesday, May 6th.
