Two interviews were published in the local papers on December 19, 2002. Dr. Susan Moor, Director of Guidance was interviewed by Janet Brown.  Diane Scricca,  Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction was interviewed by Richard Tortorici.

The Coalition for Glen Cove has joined the Alliance for Quality Education, a coalition of over 200 organizations that advocate for the public schools in NY State.

The Coalition purchased an "advertisement" in the Deasy/Landing auction dinner and comedy night program.

We continue to send out postcards to those members who do not have e-mail.

The Coalition will not recommend anyone for replacement of Phil Enright on the school board. The board had already decided to operate minus the one member until the election this spring. There will be one position open.  You can let Don Scarl know if you would like to recommend someone or yourself to run for the school board.  The term will be 3 years.

We discussed the possibility of adding web pages about each of our school board members to the Coalition site.  This would help our community members better appreciate each of their representatives by giving them more background on each board member.

The Coalition will encourage the GC Schools to provide "bios" about their many fine teachers...Ex.  "Meet the Math Department"

We would like to see more articles about our schools and students in the local papers. Perhaps some high school students could take this on as a community service....attend events, take photos and send brief articles to the papers.

We would like to have a connection to the PTA at each school.  Anyone interested for the elementary schools?  Helen Kotzky can do this for the middle and high schools.

The school board is working on the new budget.  This year promises to be a difficult one financially, based on the news of shortfalls in Albany.  In discussion, coalition members mentioned the following areas which need to be considered:  computer staff/technicians, social workers, guidance staff, full scheduling for 11th graders, high school instrumental music staff, science research and public relations,  as well as keeping up with the "No Child Left Behind" Federal Legislation.
