Coalition for Glen Cove

Minutes of  February 4, 2002 Meeting

250 letters have been sent out to prospective members.  The lists consists of community leaders and those who've written letters to the editor about educational issues.

We would like to have more members representing the diversity of our community.

Some members will be attending a meeting of the Nassau County Superintendent's Association on Friday, February 8th.  This will be an opportunity to let our Senate and Assembly members know how we stand on state aid formulas, state education budgets and tax certs.

We are now members of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce.

Nancy Cleary and Fern Lindenbaum are organizing a tour of the Glen Cove Schools for anyone interested on March 19th.

Leslie Whitely is organizing a meeting of Real Estate Brokers with the Superintendent.  Each will receive letters of invitation for prospective home buyers to visit the schools by appointment.

Don Scarl will submit a letter to the editor of local papers, stating the purpose of the Coalition, an invitation for membership and also inviting people to run for the school board.

Sally Zwiebach is organizing the fundraising brunch to take place at Steamboat Landing on Sat., April 13th.

A general fundraising letter will go out in March.

The person we will endorse for school board  will be voted upon by Coalition Members by paper ballot (printed from e-mail when possible and mailed back by post) We would also like  to recruit candidates for future years.

On busing... people need to be informed of the issue and decide on their own how they stand.  The Coalition will not take a stand but encourage everyone to know the facts involved.

We need someone to organize a special open community meeting with Carl McCall, the State Comptroller running for Governor this Fall.  Please contact Don Scarl if you could help with this project.

Janet Brown will interview Dr. Susan Moor, Head Guidance Counselor at Glen Cove HS, for the local papers.  This will be the fourth in a series of interviews this year to inform community members about our schools.
