Coalition for Glen Cove

Minutes for the Coalition for Glen Cove meeting

Monday, November 12 at 7:30PM

at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Doug Brown told us that the D.O.E. Board of Survey provides demographic information about enrollment projections for school districts for free.  This led to a discussion of the current class sizes in Glen Cove’s schools.  The membership shared information and concerns that they each have regarding the uncommonly large primary classes in Deasy School, the large class sizes in the Finley Middle and GCHS.  We discussed what we can or should do about it.  Is it a direct concern of the Coalition’s?  Don Scarl said that he would speak to PTA officials and asked for information on their concern and involvement in the issue.

It was agreed that there should be a membership vote to select a School Board candidate that we can support.  If any members are interested in running for School Board or have any suggestions, they are asked to contact Don Scarl.

We will soon begin a membership drive.  If you know of anyone who should receive an invitation to join the Coalition, please let the Coalition know and a letter will be sent to that person describing our activities and purpose.

Fern Lindenbaum continues to gather information about Civic Leaders who could be invited to a school visitation day.  It you would be able to help with addressing envelopes or assisting Fern, let Don know.

An interview with Dale Zurbrick will be published in the Record Pilot.  Bob Pryor conducted the interview.   We hope it is published at a time that coincides with the Masquer’s Fall Production.

Respectfully submitted,

Jean Kuttruff
