Minutes of Meeting June 13, 2000
The meeting was held in City Hall, Conference Room 1 and began at 7:00 p.m.
1. MEMBERS ATTENDING: Susan Goldberg, Mary Ingoglia, Ronnie Lavine, Kathy Rapelje, Hope Director, Fern Lindenbaum, Bruce Schor, Grayce Schor, Janet Bates-Wilkins, Jean Kuttruff, Chuck Kuttruff, Donald Scarl, Carol Spohr, Phyllis Spector, Lorri Prince
2. COMMITTEE MEMBER REPORTS:
Janet Bates-Wilkins placed an in the Pennysaver, page 3, as well as an ad in the Gold Coast Gazette (1/4 page).
Janet reported that last year approximately 95% of eligible citizens applied for the basic STAR reduction; there is no need to reapply this year. May 1st is the deadline for new applicants.
Janet Bates-Wilkins and Donald Scarl also submitted letters to both local papers. Sue Goldberg submitted a letter to the Record Pilot.
Ronnie Lavine sent letters to the 1999 graduates reminding them to register and to vote.
PTA put up signs on Forest Avenue, and at intersection of Glen Cove Road and Town Path.
Hope Director has entered names into the Coalition data base. Fern Lindenbaum helped scan lists into the data base as well.
Janet Bates-Wilkins has applied for a Federal ID number and will pass it on to Lorri Prince, our Treasurer as soon as it comes through.
Lorri Prince will send names of members to Chuck Kuttruff who will in turn send thank you notes.
Chuck Kuttruff will communicate with prospective members and direct them to our Treasurer for the purpose of sending in a donation.
Janet Bates-Wilkins has been in communication with Lilian Apericio of La Fuerza Unida, who helped translate voting instructions to members of the Hispanic community. She also communicated with Natheley McElrath, Chairperson of the Glen Cove African American Advisory Council and Dale Gibson Wallace to encourage members of the African American community to vote to support the budget.
Instructions for voting were circulated throughout the school buildings.
Jimmy Suozzi's letter in support of the budget will appear in the next issue of the Record Pilot.
Gail Nedbor-Gross has contacted the Glen Cove Baseball League asking for their support in communicating with parents.
At the suggestion of Les Miller, post cards were sent to some community members living on Mason Drive and Lee Gray Court with voting information details and an offer to provide rides to the various polling locations.
3. NEW BUSINESS
Kathy Rapelje volunteered to use her phone number as the Coalition contact. She will channel Coalition calls, questions and concerns to the appropriate Coalition members.
Carol Sucharski will coordinate rides to polling locations. Hope Director, Sue Goldberg, Fran Krisch, Phyllis Spector Barbara Cohen, and Grayce Schor volunteered their time to provide rides.
Donald will pursue the issue of a Bulk Mail rate ($.21). The Coalition will need a constitution or set of By-laws in order to qualify for Non-profit rate ($.16).
THE NEXT MEETING OF THE COALITION WILL BE ON TUESDAY, JULY 11th AT 7:00 P.M. IT WILL BE HELD AT CITY HALL IN CONFERENCE ROOM 2.
