Laurie Lynn, the guidance chairperson for the Glen Cove schools, will be the invited speaker at the November meeting.
Ms. Lynn will talk about how Glen Cove guides students from middle school through graduation by making sure they have the courses they need to receive a New York State Regent’s diploma. Each student’s guidance counselor suggests a program of study, schedules the student’s classes, and advises on the taking of the standardized PSAT and SAT tests. Students who are having trouble with their courses or having problems at home can meet with a guidance counselor, who can also make referrals to a social worker or a psychologist. During their junior year students talk with counselors about choosing a college, about the schedule for submitting application materials, and about sources of financial aid.
The meeting is open to the public. For information call Coalition president Helen Kotzky at 674-4130.
