Agenda of Coalition for Glen Cove meeting

September 26th 2005, 7:30 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Dr. Laurence Aronstein, Glen Cove superintendent of schools, will be the speaker at the September meeting of the Coalition for Glen Cove on Monday, September 26, 2005 at 7:30PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 28 Highland Road in Glen Cove.

Dr. Aronstein began his career as a science teacher in a New York City middle school and served as elementary, middle-school, and high-school principal in Westchester County and in Massachusetts. For the past eight years he has been assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the Copiague Public Schools on Long Island, a district whose students have needs similar to those of the students of Glen Cove.

Under his leadership, the number of students graduating from Copiague High School with a Regents diploma increased and test scores improved. He aligned curriculum with state standards, developed student assessments at every grade level, and provided training and leadership in staff development.

He wrote successful grant proposals in Copiague for $2 million, including universal pre-kindergarten, extended school day, violence-prevention, English-literacy, civics-education, and dual-language programs

Dr. Aronstein earned his doctorate in curriculum planning and development from the University of Buffalo. As founding director of the Long Island Leadership Academy for aspiring school leaders he has mentored more than fifty school leaders throughout Long Island. He often serves as a workshop leader on the topic of leadership development, and has published more than two dozen articles and books.

The Coalition for Glen Cove meeting is open to the public.
