Discussion
The Glen Cove School Board seems to have decided
leave its one open seat open until the election next May. Some of us
feel that filling this seat now with a person from a minority group or
with a former school board member would be a chance to bring a new or an
experienced voice to the board. Others feel that it is somewhat unlikely
that the Coalition’s advice will influence the board in this decision
and that if the board named a temporary member now it might influence
the chances of those who will run for the board in May.
If there is a strong feeling that the Coalition
should present to the school board a list of candidates who are willing
to serve on the board for the next four months, we could do that. Please
email me with your advice on this.
It would be good if Glen Cove school board members
were better known to the people of Glen Cove. It has been suggested that
one way to help would be to include a page for each board member on the
Coalition web site that includes their picture, background, employment
experience, community service, and positions held in other
organizations. Please let me know if there are any objections to putting
board member pages on the Coalition web site.
The school board committee on school drug use has
suggested that the district use the PRIDE survey of drug use. This seems
like a good idea and local groups have offered to pay part of the modest
cost. |
