There was a school board candidates meeting attended by Richard Tortorici, Beverly Granger, and Don Scarl. Richare Tortorici and Doug Brown will write up their resumes and we will send them to all Coalition members together with a ballot.
School Board member Phil Enright will be moving to Port Jefferson and leaving his school board position one year before the end of his term. The Board can choose to elect another member in May or to appoint another member for the remainder of Phil’s term.
Joe Hinton has been named high school principal and Dan Smith has been named an assistant principal at the middle school.
We have about 150 addresses on our membership list and 250 on our prospects list. We will send invitations to the brunch to all these people. We also have a list of about 800 parents. Whom should we invite?
Carl McCall who is running in the Democratic primary for
New York State governor is a former school board member and the present New York
State Controller. We should invite him to speak at a public meeting about school
issues, state support, and Regents requirements.
There is a Long Island Education Coalition.
Now is the time to encourage
parents to register to vote. We should cooperate with the PTAs.
