Recently Achieved
Janet Bates-Wilkins
and Natheley McElrath will run for school board. We expect that the
Coalition will endorse their candidacy.
Robert Germino and
Kurt Schmeller have also picked up petititons.
Natheley and Janet
will circulate a petition to have the school board term changed from
five years to three years.
Angela Hamel has
persuaded Susan Johnson, the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel,
to send us a set of job descriptions for administrators. The
descriptions have been summarized on the Coalition website.
For discussion:
Leslie Whitely has the
bookmark that the Coalition will distribute to senior centers and
elsewhere. We also hope to publish it in the Record Pilot.
Leslie Whitely is
working to organize a meeting between Dr. Freeley and Glen Cove,
Locust Valley, Sea Cliff, and Glen Head real rstate brokers.
Jean and Chuck
Kuttruff will send letters to community leaders inviting them to the
second school visit day on March 8. Nancy Cleary will coordinate the
visits with the building principals.
Natheley McElrath and
Ian Siegel are working on arranging a fund-raising brunch. Ian has
gotten price estimates from Steamboat landing and from the
Metropolitan.
The candidate
committee has met with Dr. Freeley.
We would like to send
absentee ballots requests to homes of graduates of the past four
years.
Don Ranieri has
arranged that he, Janet Bates-Wilkins, and Don Scarl speak at the
Center Club at the Glen Cove Senior Center on March 5. We would like
to speak at meetings of civic groups.
We will ask churches about church groups we could speak to (Don
Ranieri)

If you are willing to
help with any of the things above or below, just do it, and let us
know. We rely on Coalition members to choose their activities and
work on them independently. The Coalition, of course, can always
help with advice, information, and support.
We would like to
collect numbers that show the performance of Glen Cove schools and
students in comparison with other districts.
Help people sign up
for STAR exemptions (Janet Bates-Wilkins
Explain mechanics of
elections to new voters
Put Coalition
literature in boxes in GC Library.
Involve parents of ESL
students and parents who do not now participate in their
children’s education.
Make list of losses
caused by austerity budget.
Send notice about
